Philosophical question, chaps.

If you had a 3 series and swapped out the engine, bumpers, and even seats, with an M3, would you still call your whip a 3series or an M3???? Hmmmmmm?

still a 3 series because A, you didnt mention suspension, and all power no turn is for muscle cars
and
B, M's are built, ground up AS an M , not a 3 with a better motor.

if it isn't built by BMW Motorsport, it is not an M. if it doesn't have the "S" in the VIN, it is not an M. no one can argue with that.

Gotta agree with the others its not an ///M unless it comes that way. You can do everything to make it like an ///M but its still not one at heart

So what if someone adds a supercharger to thier M? It didn't come standard with it... so is it still a true M? What if the same said person goes beyond just a bolt on (simply speaking) supercharger, and reworks the internals... is it still an M?

So, what if some kid blows his M engine. He can't afford the new one, and in haste, gets a 328i's engine. Is it still an M?

I understand what an M is, I'm just throwing these questions out there to see what people respond with.

^it started its life as an M so its an M. Supercharger makes it even more of an M, reworked stuff better M, Tear out the interior and do upgrades to everthing put a cage in it, the best M. Kid blows up the engine puts the 328 engine in realizes its not as good sells the car gets another real m. Good questions though. The last one is the only one I have trouble with cause it stillwas born as an M and ment to be one.

I'm saying if it didnt start life as an official M i dont think its an M, I think if you buy an M and do work to it its still an M, infact a better version then it started out as, I mean look at Edwin's car its a beast of an M.

Well, what you are saying then, is that one could rebuild the entire car but because it was built an M it stays an M? Or does it become something different?

btw, hoppy - I didn't mention suspension because most people end up swapping out the suspension whether its an M or a 3 series. Most tuners have aftermarket suspensions, therefor they invalidate eachother in terms of debatability.

this is a ridiculous question....as the owner of a 95 M3 i just want to make it clear that no matter what you do to a normal 3 series it can never be an M....and no matter what you do to an M, its still an M
