Sylvania Silver Stars
 

Just got some 9006 Silver Star bulbs for my stock headlights, what a difference. For those of you wondering if it's worth the switch, I say hell yea. Much brighter, whiter, and longer throw. The beams are more focused as well. Definitely worth the bucks, considering I got them on eBay for $10 each :redspotda

I always appreciate it when somone upgrades their lights without blinding the rest of us :)

My personal preference is the "Viper" bulb--HIR

I was about to do the Silverstars when I was offered the HIR bulbs. Not for $10 though :(

Anyone else here have an opinion on "xenon" bulbs. Any experiance with these anyone.
i know that the really white ones are hard on MY eyes when Im driving towards someone, and the blues are just distracting when looking at them. But a buddy of mine has a honda s2000, it has a blue tinted bulb for head lights, Im not sure excactly what they are, but when we are driving down a dark road its kinda weird the way they put the light out there. Its almost like you're looking into a box filled with light in a dark room. but that could be the way the light is reflected in the headlamp.

Color coated bulb are "strange" in both pattern and effect.

I remember when the first Blue bulbs actually had crystals on the outside of the bulb to get "Sparkle". I almost started carrying so I could shoot them out :shoot

Yep. The standard 9006 will have a 90 degree angle at the base of the bulb, while the Silverstars just come straight out. Either way, the wire harness just plugs right in.
The front corners are 1157 or 1157A, depending on whether you want clear or amber. The rear tails are different though (can't remember the part #).

I think tails are 1156

1156 are single filament for front corners and rear turns, 1157's are double filament for the brakes. (iirc)

I just did some light buying myself. Finally getting rid of the oem look and goin xenonish.. :P

^^^Uhh . . no. the fronts require dual filament, the rear turns require single at an offset base pin angle, and the brakes require a single with a 180 degree pin config, IIRC. Oh yea- welcome to UB.c ;)

My OEM bulbs just came out this morning after the nice fed-ex guy came. :) Single filament for front corners and rear turns. Brake lights have the double filament (1157) at least on my 323. (That a E36 vs E46 difference maybe?)

That or the factory put them in wrong. These are my original bulbs coming out from all 4 corners. I'd take pics but I'm too lazy to go back downstairs and grab my cam (Have the laptop in the garage with me this morning with a DIY open so I can make sure I get my cab lights put in right!).

Photos at some point, I'm excited seeing all the yellow go away. Guess it's time to do a dash upgrade now.

Okay, here's exactly what I have:

Front corners: 1157, dual filament
All brake lights: 7506, single filament
Rear turn signals: 7506, single filament
Backup: 7506, single filament
Tail lights: one 7225, dual filament with offset base pins, and one 5007, single filament.

I think the 7xxx part numbers are specifically for European cars, but I could be wrong, and there may be an 11xx equivalent for them. Yea, there's probably a difference between the E46 and the E36, and there may even be a difference between E36's too. Go figure, I guess :dunno

I got slyvania's they are alright. Its an improvemtn over the stock bulbs.
Im pleased.

It took me a while to get used to my moms Xenon head lights...those things are bright as hell, but the bluer light is different and takes getting used to.
