Upgraded Brake Lines
 

What are peoples thoughts and experiences with
1. Stainless Steel Brake lines
2. Stainless Steel Brake lines with Teflon Coating

Why would you choose a brake line with teflon coating?

What companies or brands would you reccomend and why?

1) I recently upgraded to a set of UUC SS brake lines. The fit, finish, and quality were all top notch.
2) They are covered in teflon because SS will pretty much saw thru anything it comes in contact with. It also keeps dirt out of the SS braiding -- which will destroy the SS braiding.

The only real reason to 'upgrade' to SS brake lines is to keep them from being severed. They do NOT increase pedal effort. Many people say they do -- this is a placebo effect. Call up UUC, Stoptech, Goodyear or whoever you want and specificaly ask them how they affect pedal effort. Unless they're lieing out their ass, they'll tell you they do not change the pedal effort.

Stock rubber lines are very good, especially on your car which is just a few years old. The rubber lines actually have an inner coating that will not really expand much under pressure. It may a little bit, but not as bad as many people try to say they do.

In short... I upgraded to SS brake lines just because I could when I replaced my pads/fluid/suspension. After 10 years, I'm sure my rubber lines were not as good as when they were brand new.

The UUC lines are very well made. If they make them for your car, I would get them. If not, try Stoptech and Goodyear. Does Dinan make a set?

Teflon inner line does improve the feel of the 8 series brakes. The pedal feels much stiffer than with rubber braided lines.

Call up Dinan and ask them what they think. They may offer a set of SS brake lines. It looks like you have quite a few Dinan points. Do you have 10 yet? See what their opinion is on them.

I do have 10 points. I will call them today sometime.

if you track your car it is a good idea. Your stock rubber hoses are what make your brakes fade, so the SS lines will keep those brakes up to the task.

^Its the heat from the pads that cause fade and heating up the brake fluid to very hot temps

Did not knwo that, thank you. Learn something new every day, and if it's about a BMW, then it's a good day!

^no prob the rubber lines will flex more though which is why the brakes feel more mushy with the standard ruber lines. The stainless will help make it so that doesn't happen resulting in a firmer pedal feel.

The plan is to get some new brake lines this week if my car passes the tech inspection to track it next month at PR.
