Tire Chains for a 540i
Any ideas where to get them and what kind? i.e. chains vs. the sythetic kind? I would be concerned about damage to the wheel wells and wheels.

Try Sportsrack.com. If I remember right they sell "cable chains". It's aircraft cable with mini rollers on the cross cables. They fit tight up against the tire with room to spare your wheelwells & fenders. They're made for emergency use only not for long run or highway type use. :wave

Theres a plastic snow "chain" that just basiclly snaps on and off. There cheap, and theyd grip just as good if not better than an actual chain. Sorry i dont have a link at this time.

Nope, hell in some western states you're required to have them available (with you) to get up in the mountains. (Colorado & Nevada) There not made for long drives just to get you though deep snow & for really slow speeds.
