ignition delema
just bought my first bmw 1995 318ti
the ignition harness needs to be replaced looks pretty simple the problem is this the two green wire harness the goes to the key switch is broken off the side of the ignition ring, also the key tumbler is shot just spins around needs to be replaced, i know the two green wires are part of a coded key system. my question is this can i get a harness and key tumbler Say with key from my local wrecking yard . is there any way to get the chip out of my old key to make this work. second question is the system going to be lock out because the green wires are ripped off the side of the key cylinder.and was tried to start without those wires being close to the key
You can get a tumbler from the junkyard. You just have to switch over the insides from your tumber so your key will still work, or get the whole car re-keyed. Which is not cheap.
Have you tried starting it since the green wires were disconnected?
