Any idea to choose diagnostic tool?

Hi,I have 1995 M3,I want to got OBDII to my car to read the fault code,but the seller told me to buy BMW Multi Tool V2.3,I have no idea now,Do you have ever use a OBDii or BMW Multi Tool V2.3?If so come on,I need your help.Thank you in advance...
