"BMW Packages", What Cassandra said...

She said they are crooks...

okay seven of us were doing a reading assignment this morning after class when I noticed this Italian girl named Cassandra in our group had BMW keys on her..and of course I had to ask...
turns out her pops bought her a Black on Tan CPO 2003 330xi last Spring.

We starting talking prices because I told her I noticed those CPO E46s cost almost as much as a new E90 (around $32,000).
She explained that is what they thought because she told her dad she originally wanted a 2005 brand new 330Ci (coupe not convertable) which was stickered for about $35,000...but when they did the packages add on it was about $7,000 more. And it was for simple shit like metallic paint ($700), StepTron Auto ($1,500), Leather Seats package with dimming mirrors($2,000), Xenons HL($2,500), Floor Mats ($160)..etc...

Anyway, she said her pops flipped out because his wife's 2005 Nissan Maxima was $32,000 base price and to put all the luxury stuff in there (GPS, special sun roof, leather, Bi-Xenons, Bigger Rims, XM radio, Sport package suspension, spoiler) was only $3,000 extra.

BMW told them to get a CPO E46 so they wouldn't pay extra for packages...and sure enough she found a similar used 330xi with all the extra trimmings for $33,000. Her dad thinks the BMW packages are really way overpriced when compared to other car makers...
She said even his new E class Mercedes wasn't overpriced like BMWs after he added extra stuff on...

I just could'nt argue with her...and what's more she doesn't even want her car anymore she says she shoulda gotten a Mustang or a M class Mercedes SUV that her girlfriend drives...

I agree I check out the Nissan/Infiniti and Mercedes websites and compared their packages with BMW packages...

so far BMW is the only auto maker of the 3 that makes you lots of pay up extra money for stupid shit like paint color and basic floor mats. BMWs GPS packages are $2200 whiles Nissan's are $700. BMW Sport Rims will run you almost $4,000, Nissan's are less than $1,500. BMW's standard automatic tranmission will run you up to $1,700 extra as a "luxury package", but it's standard and no extra fee on all the other car makers.

WTF? :
I mean I understand BMW is the shit, but that's crookery if you ask me.
What do ya'll think?

It does seem a little over priced for all of those extras. However, there is a ton of engineering that goes into BMW parts. Most companies will put in half the engineering time, and come out with a part that is ALMOST as good, but there will still be one or two flaws or drawbacks. BMW will put in twice as much time in order to rid their product of the one or two little gliches that you will experience in other cars. That engineering time costs a pretty penny.

I still think they are overpriced, even with all the extra work that goes into designing everything. But the saying goes, "you get what you pay for"

no engineering in floor mats...

Actually I packaged an 330xi E90 to my specifications on the website...and I the car went from 37,000 to 46,000 which is what I would gladly spend to own a new E90 with all the trimmings...but I swear if any little thing goes wrong like glitches, I will be running back to the dealership..
in fact i will make it clear to my service/sales guy that once I put down my cash on the barrel-head for this car...I'm also paying you guys to beckon to my every whim and cry.

Heck I swear I act like I own the service guy for everything I want done to my 1995 318i...I call them for everything...they even know my name and cell phone by heart...but like I said that is what I got when I got my car diagnosed by them for almost $3,000 last summer 2004.

...most manufacturers charge extra for metallic or special paint colors. $700 is about average.

Those are not to extreme considering bmw's are grossly over priced anyways..

If all you care about is these stupid gizmos, then a mercedes is a better car for you anyway. The base model is sufficiently equipped anyway, so why is this spoiled chick whining? She drives around in a parent funded beamer.

Yes nissans are very nice cars, although alot of their new suspensions (on the Z) are derived directly from the e36.. so they are nice, but bmw is behind some of their engineering.

That said.. i would love to own a track edition 350z, and would probably consider one if i was buying a brand new car.

Even my dad, who drives an Audi and has hated BMW since the E21, says he likes the look of the Z4 Coupe and Z4 M. When are those supposed to hit the streets?
