Which BMW to buy?

So I will be returning to the US in a year after being stationed overseas. I can get a 10% discount on any new BMW if I order it before I leave. So, my question is what car should I buy? I want a new M3 but the price is still high and the gas mileage sucks. I like the 1 series, but it is only a coupe and I have kids. Also, I was thinking a used E46 M3, but the same coupe only issue. There are so many choices, anybody have any opinions/experience with these cars? Thanks.

:uhohyes just one thing to remember ,make sure you get a manual transmission and not the auto box ,or the dimes will roll out ya pocket if it goes wrong one day,and a manual is easyer to workout when it goes wrong ,rather than the automatic ,i wish id taken this advise as my automatic v8 e39 now has problems with its auto box, and i havnt driven it for weeks now . so take care .

If you go for the used car route, make sure to get a quick Carfax report to make sure it hasn't been in any accidents recently.
