Sam's reasons why not to buy automatic

This is not meant to offend, but as humor mostly. I wrote this to a good friend as a joke when he told me that automatic cars were ok

why automatic transmissions of all kinds suck, by Sam Denny:

1. Automatic transmission rob more horsepower than manual
2. Automatic transmissions use up more gas mileage than manual
3. Automatic transmissions are heavier than manual
4. Automatic transmissions require about 5 times more maintenance and transmission fluid than manual
5. Automatic transmissions are considered an option on some cars and therefore cost more money
6. An automatic transmission will shift when you don't want it to
7. An automatic transmission will not shift when you do want it to
8. An automatic transmission takes some of the control of the car away from you and gives it to the car
9. Automatic transmissions allow the driver to be less involved with the driving of the car, therefore causing undue obliviousness of the driver to his or her environment
10. With an automatic transmission, the driver cannot release the brake pedal at a red light after hard braking, which causes a higher probability of warped rotors.
11. One can not rev up the engine and drop the clutch with an automatic transmission
12. I get pissed off driving automatic cars. They keep shifting on me.

one more thing:

Chuck Norris does not drive automatic.

nick_318is 02-13-2008 05:35 PM

in regards to 11. You can still brake torque the car if it has enough power and it will get the required result.

But you know what? your right automatics blow.

Ok, now the main reason why manual sucks:
IT SUCKS IN TRAFFIC.

not if you are Chuck Norris.

Neilsen 02-13-2008 05:47 PM

well how much would it cost to switch to a manual transmission. it'll probably be over my triple didget price range

witeshark 02-13-2008 06:01 PM

Switching is a pretty big deal. Also, with autos you can release the brake at lights by using the handbrake. I do that in my mom's car.

only because you cant drive. i drove my bug in heavy traffic before, with no brakes too! sure, its easier to drive an auto car through traffic, but its just not the same.

MANUAL FTMFW MF!

Numark318i 02-13-2008 06:47 PM

you know, if you commute everyday and theres traffic...manual ftl. sorry. especially a BMw..seeing how all teh clutches are stiff as shit.

but..manual is sweet for the runs and driving alone. but when you have people in the car and you screw up a shift its always inconvenient for the passengers and you feel like an ass.

and it doesnt matter how long your been driving stick...ull screw up.

xsperf 02-13-2008 07:11 PM

in terms of traffic, there are obvious pros and cons to both, but in the end, the pros of an auto are MUCH less than the pros of a manual, and the other way around with the cons

BMWLotAttendant 02-13-2008 09:43 PM

That's why I don't want to by an e39 M5, because driving an M5 on a big hill like Queen Anne, really is going to suck.

Buuuut, if I find an e60 or e63 with SMG, I'd be good to go. :D

Plus, with an automatic, the gf can drive any car. If I got a manual, the gf would be clueless how to drive around town if she needed a bigger vehicle to transport stuff.

i have never had a problem in traffic with any of my manual cars(including my truck). but then again, i dont have to deal with it on a regular basis. just when i have to go out of town for a part or something.

denyo77 02-14-2008 07:08 AM

you can rev up manual in P and then go to D
my Touring slushie does that without even needing to apply the brakes or pushing in the button...
and it sounds cool
I only once tried a burnout (brake+gas) didn't sound good to the car so I didn't do it again

Why would you want to let your girlfriend drive your car? get a manual.

Then teach her stick! Only took me a couple of days to get the hang of it when I was 17.
