Mom wants a 1 Series...

My mother has had two BMWs in the last 8 years or so. First was a Z3 red convertible, next came the Z4. She wishes she kept the Z3. It really was a nice ride. The Z4 has 30 something miles coming up on the 4 year warranty. I told her about the 1 Series today. She loves it just by the photos - wants a back seat to carry grandkids, etc. Does anyone have any opinions on the new 'vert?

I think they are beautiful and would be a great grab. I am concerned that your mother may not be satisfied with the limited amount of room in that backseat. I know its more than a Z, but probably not enough for toting children.

Welp, she's not satified with the two seater. It served her well when it was a commute car into San Francisco. I rode with her many days in the commuter lane. Now we work locally. There's no need for the commute lane and my kids are still small, so this seems to make sense. She loves sports cars. When I was a kid one of my earliest memories was her and a '69 Mustang. She had to sell that to make room for 5 of us!. She wants a bigger car than the Z4. She wants a back seat with a sporty ride.

I would love a 135i. There have been getting very impressive reviews in roundel and bimmer magazine. BMW will be gettting back to their e30 heritage with 1 series.

According to the Car & Driver link "The 128i convertible will run $33,875". That's base model. Mom doesn't want to spend that much. Maybe it's just sticker shock. I'm sure if she drove one she would be sold. I'll go with her next time to the dealer for warranty service. I'll get her into one for a test drive.

Yes, I'm sure it did. That's what I don't get. People are funny when it comes to money. I'm sure if she drove one, money would become no object. Besides, what new luxury car is under 35k these days? She has until Oct this year to sort it out, so we'll see. She's just talking about it now.
