Unless you guys want to keep copy and pasting off of wikipedia, I'd suggest two great books:

BMW: Driven to Succeed (Graham Robson)
BMW Motorcycles (Holmstrom and Nelson)

Both have a very detailed history of the automobile and motorcycle history, respectively.

as for the roundel. as part of bmw training at work we take a course called "BMW Heritage" its all about the history and development of the company. on the website which obviously, is run by and through BMW it affirms the propeller "theory"

Lets make this a thread of what you think BMW means.
For instance,

Break My Window - to steal my radio
Bent My Wheel - As we all know the rims are like tin foil and bend like nothing

I have another one but its sorta derogatory so im not gona say it.

we are in 21 centiary ? who needs abook? all in the internet .. easy to get..

oh you know it! haha actually its just a mandatory part of the first level parts advisor certification training, along with about a dozen other classes which none of the other guys have ever taken. as for the family shield i believe that only influenced the colors.

blue and white (rhombs) are the flag of Bavaria

and the blue and white are like the moving propeller
but I'll look it up in my big BMW book, allright?

I want to cordially apologize to everyone in this thread for having cursed in the open forum earlier in the week. It was very unprofessional of me and for some reason, I thought this was in the comedy section because I was laughing so hard at all of the mottos.
