I thought the phones were only for a BMW based network?
This wouldnt work in america if the car was older then 01 because the signal to the phone would have to be analog.

Does the car's manual describe the type of network the phone uses? AFAIK CDMA is the most common and TDMA is mostly phased out. GSM exists here in the US, but only on at&t.
