Current Issues... New ride? - United Bimmer Community

So tonight my '75 530i had its cabin filled with thick, white, musty steam from the heater core... not much fun. Other than that she idles a bit high once warmed up (between 16-1800)... but is smooth. Anyhow, she's stuck at work until I either bypass the core, or replace it and drive her home.

Tonight I also got my X-Mas bonus at work... which to my surprise was over $1k. I'm still smiling to say the least. I figure this weekend I'll get a cheap commuter car so I can keep the 5 @ home and work on her. Well, of course I start browsing for a BMW first (maybe I'll find a gem that's waiting for me). Guess what I found: '72 Bavaria 3.0... for $900 (link to car domain page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2951732 craigslist ad: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/499681225.html) Now, As much as I would love to just run out and buy her... I know I don't need another project (though she runs and just needs tabs), but I want a 3.0 SOOOOOO bad. I just love the look. *drools*

Anyhow, that's all... just thought I'd share.

Hey dude good to see you checking in. The Bavaria looks good and I really love them. Good Luck getting the 5 fixed.

That pretty much says it all. The car will most likely turn into a project at some point. I'm saving a 92 Nissan Sentra with 145k on it as a backup for when my BMW is undergoing work. The Sentra has new brakes, clutch and gets 30 MPG. It burns a half a quart a month as a daily driver. I've put 2500 into it including purchase 2 years ago. I have to make a point to drive it since I got my BMW a few weeks ago. When the Sentra dies, I sell it. I can't see doing that to a BMW. Good luck with your decision.
