"Gangbanger" labeling...
Just attended one of my former fellow grad. student's Halloween party on Saturday.
When some of the girls there saw the white '89 M3 they immediately labeled it a "gangbanger-mobile"... They asked why I "added" the fenders and the rear spoiler to the car. This happened before at the dept. summer get-together (with the black car).
I have explained many times to these folks that this car, and the black one as well, are not "customizations" and that they are original M models with respected lineage and a most notable record of wins in the European Car Championships... It all falls on deaf ears. I cannot overcome the ignorance. Bizarrely, I like the cars more than I like the company.
That is all...

They said it on Top gear too, its the most successful racer of its class ever!

yeah. on another forum(cant remember which one)there was a guy who went to go get some parts, ended up getting into a huge argument with one of the guys that worked there. the guy asked him why he would do that to a 318is. obviously not a good thing to say.

...the problem.
And when one tries to educate the unknowledgeable individual ...it seldom takes.

^^^ haha witey. thats easy. the E46 is easy too, they both got beautiful fat bottoms! the E36 is a bit tougher, but it can still be done.
o yeah, i hate when people say beemer too xsperf, but most times i let it go because its not worth saying anything. stupid media pushed the wrong word. . .

Problem is, the E30 M3 really doesn't look like it could be bought outright like that. But then to the untrained eye, one might say the same thing about a Saleen Mustang or a Gemballa Porsche. Beemer, Bimmer, I don't even care anymore to correct people. Before any of that stuff, people already have in their heads that BMWs are snooty, so they'll always have something to say about them anyhow. In my experiences with people, it's pointless to explain yourself unless you get them in the car for a drive. They don't care about a history lesson . . to them you're just showing off your money. But once they experience it, they understand why you spent it. That's the real essence of a BMW. Jump in and I'll show you what this gangbanger car is about, BITCH.

Heard a similar conversation on another BMW forum; lots of people 'not in the know' label any E30 a gangster's car, but it was agreed that gangsters upgraded from E30s years ago..lol I've never seen a 'gang-banger' in an M3!

i even feel like this about most BMW drivers myself. but you can most times tell the difference between the snooty people owners and the enthusiast drivers.
you wanna see gangbangers in an E30? watch menace II society. its in an E30 that one of them get shot up for the car! its no M3 tho, just a plain 325.

yea with the bimmer beemer thing, i dont even bother, but what drives me nuts is that they think they are all that because they know the slang term for it, they 'know' its called a beemer(which sets them up from the rest of the population, more like down), why cant you just friggin call it a BMW
its really arrogance that drives me crazy, and even more when they are wrong

+ 1,000,000, Linds. I've actually quit trying to educate. However for the few ignorant people who have driven my car, EVERYONE wants it. I think the most asked question is, "Wanna trade?" Next in line would be "I HAVE to buy one of these when I graduate!"
Personally, it's not really worth it to me anymore to try and convert the stupid. If they don't find out on their own, it's their loss. If they do, great. Don't get me wrong, I love BMW and I love being an enthusiast, but if it's all going to fall on deaf ears, I don't care.

edit: minus being the girl part... of course...
people dont get it about 3/4 of the time. Actually probably more. but who cares, they can be ignorant... not my problem.
m3flyer, sorry you had to deal with the unappreciative, god knows anyone who knows anything would drool over the ///m
