Dinan Dealers

Has anyone had dinan parts installed at dinan dealers? is this the best route to go if i am planning on buying dinan exhaust, chip, and intake. or should i just buy it and take it to a muffler shop? suggestions?

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. Anyone with experience could do all 3 of those installed in maybe an hour or two. If you're new to it, I'd say give it a Saturday.

And do not get it installed at the Dinan Reseller, you'll get ripped off horribly. An exhaust, chip, and intake are either installed or they're not... there's not much gray area.

And if you get serious about doing it yourself, I'll find you very detailed DIYs on how to do all 3.

Good luck with it.

Youve got the right idea going for those three basic mods at first, but while dinan is a very reputable company, there are some other, MUCH less expensive, options out there.

Since the 6 cyl e39 doesnt have to much of a performance following, your going to have to peice together a muffler and resonantor and essentially create your own catback to save some money. TMS (turnermotorsport.com) sells reputable mufflers and catback resonators, but they too are pretty over priced. If you can source some parts at wholesale, or possibly get in on a group buy somewhere, you could end up saving a bunch of money over the dinan exhaust.
-You could also go with a reputable muffler and have a tuning shop build you a custom cat back exhaust system, which would probably still save money over the dinan option.

As for the chip, your m52 cannot be chipped because it is OBDII, so a shark injector is in order. The TMS shark injector for the m52 2.8L will be your best bet. You would want to call TMS and talk to them before buying a SI, as i dont own an OBDII car, and im not completely farmiliar with exactly what you will need.

Intake, again a CAI could very easily be made yourself, the dinan carbon fiber one is redicuously over priced.. You could go with the conforti one TMS has, but even that is seriously a waste of money imo.

All these mods will give you some extra ponies, and help with throttle response, but they will not yeild HUGE gaines. Fuel delivery upgrades and cams would be the finishing touch for your motor if your serious about NA mods.. while running your motor on stock internals, besides the cams of course.

If youve got any questions.. fire away.

im not too worried about hp because my car will never be considered fast w/o large amounts of money. what is the best bet for the performance sound and agressive tone of an aftermarket muffler. i want that sound!

Remus is expensive, but sounds good.. some like the sound of a uuc, but i dont think they have an option for your car.. Magnaflow is cheap and will sound great, not like a ricer exhaust, just a deep and full note. On the 5's you dont have fancy tips do you? the stock exaust just curves down in the rear? Something like a magnaflow might work great with that because you wouldnt have to see the tips.

I'd also recommend turner motorsports. Also for your first buy, I'd get the M50 manifold. You'll get alot of power and more HP when you add bolt on's. As far as intake's etc. get the TMS shark injector (hands down) and there comforti intake. There a great buy for much less than dinan. Pair that with an M50 manifold and you will notice big gains. Exhausts all depend on what you want. Dinan makes a great sound for 528i's but TMS has other companies than can duke out a much louder. deeper sound.
