Drop in parts prices at the dealer????

Alright, this may be totally untrue but my cousin (of the M3 brand) just went to the dealer to finally order his clutch kit. I priced an OEM kit at $312.00 from Pelican and told him to order it there because that would be the cheapest price.

Now, he's lazy and hasn't ordered it yet, until yesterday when he breaks down and goes to West County BMW, a huge dealer in town. Anyway, the price is $230!!!! For the whole freakin' kit!:jawdrop

The mechanic there tells him that BMW dealers are having to lower the prices that they charge for parts because no one is buying them.

Is there any other proof to this? :dunno

man, that would be awesome. i still dont think i would buy parts from there tho. . . but that is a huge difference!

You sure he told them it was an M3? That sounds more like the price for a non-M clutch :eek What a bargain, but it makes sense- now that I've bought just about everything for my car, the prices should drop :doh

there is partial truth to that. It's up to the dealers discretion and some of the variables aren't just walk in parts sales - if they lower their parts prices by a % then the service prices for Inspections & maintenance are lower overall also. The labor rates & times are the same but they offer a "more attractive" service pkge price to the customer. Many do this this time of the year when people are planning vacations & road trips - they make it up in volume. It's called the "slow dime vs the fast buck". It also helps car sales this time of year - it's economic shuffling.
