If you get a GS500, they have really bad fuel starvation issues in the older models. I'm learning that the hard way.

No, it's caused by a vacuum operated "petcock" or remote fuel cock. It's a shitty design. Under high loads, i.e. up hills or 60 mph+ or moderate acceleration, the bike will starve itself of fuel and die because the vacuum isn't there in those situations when the petcock is old and worn out. My bike is 15 years old... =worn out petcock =

I need to get one from a 2004 Honda CBF250X, apparently it works much better. The damn bike left me stranded for about 5 minutes on a rural road after dying at 65 mph. Yeah, real nice. However, it is a fairly common problem and there are many fixes for it. Right now, I'm running it in prime. <-- It bypasses the vacuum.

I'm finding a couple more problems with it from the previous owner. He routed the throttle cable wrong, which causes the throttle to stick sometimes and for the bike to rev when you turn the bars to the right. Yeah, kind of gay. I know.

So, for now, no good long trips on it. I don't know if it'll die. Whatev. I have at least another month and a half of riding it before I need to replace the front fork seals and do a valve adjustment over the winter.

Being that this bike is basically a "cult" bike, there are a LOT of people who've had these problems before, so this is nothing I can't handle. For $1500, I kind of expected a small amount of work. Maybe next year, when I get the kinks worked out of this bike, I'll get some cosmetic things going for me. (Fenderectomy, reflective striping for night riding, integrated taillight, flush mount front turn signals, LED gauges and indicators... all the performance stuff has been done to the bike so that's all I have left to do.

wow, that throttle cable thing kinda worries me, last thing you want is the throttle to be stuck open when you are turning.. haha actually that reminds me, today i was backing up and my foot slipped off the clutch, and instead of the car stalling, it just jumped back and kept going and going(trying to shove the clutch down quickly = more slip ups.. haha )

The throttle cable isn't that big of a worry for me. I generally don't turn the bars fully to the right lock. That's when it happens. I'm a leaner, not a steerer. Only problem with that problem is that I can't find a schematic that shows me where the throttle cable should route through. <-- Dumb.

in terms of the throttle cable, its really on big deal if you are going at a reasonable amount of speed, but if you are in a parking lot/ going slowly, like under 20mph you must turn the handle bars, leaning wont do any good, and in that case if the throttle is stuck, make sure you quickly squeeze the clutch lever...
