The only downside I can see though is either A) twice the size of storage space, with two copies of every wallpapers, with and without the watermark... or B) much, much more intense CPU usage on every wallpaper view because of generating on-the-fly.
Both options hurt.
Silly, just do what you are doing now, and if you need to slap the tag on it, generate it on-the-fly using your normal image and a transparent gif logo and spit it out, since you won't be doing much of them it shoudln't hammer the cpu. And the goal is achieved.
