I don't have a dog, this is from friends pets.

sick bastards. I have a cat, I know it's a cat. I don't call it my baby, or consider it to be anything more than a cat. It doesn't give a damn if I come home as long as it has food and water and clean liter. I can setup food for a week, when I came back he will look at me with the "oh, so your back" look and go off and do whatever he does during the day. He's fond of the lap and I don't mind petting him.
now a dog cares what you are doing, when you get home, and I don't know how many times I hear "I've got to get home and let the dog out" Just too much maintenance
If I wanted additional responsibility I would have had another kid.
