There should have been an investigation by now or at least real comments coming from high up officials regarding price gouging and taking advantage of the situations at hand (iraq/katrina).
Why havent there been? If this was going on at a time when an administration that didnt recieve huge campaign funding and support from oil companies was in office, then there would have been serious alegations made towards the oil companies regarding price gouging, and perhaps even another investigation like the one performed by the senate in 2k3.
Say whatever you want, 'supply and demand', or whatever, but when they bump up prices to 3.60 just because a hurricane comes around, that right there is price gouging and taking advantage of a situation where others are suffering to bring in more money.
Its no different than buying a generator at home depot or something, then trucking it down to new orleans and selling it for 3x what you paid for it, just because you have the hold on the market. Doing something like that is unacceptable and can actually be prosecuted in court.
I have no problem with gas prices rising with the cost of crude oil rising as well, but WTF, come on, the oil companies pulling shit like they have in the last few months not because of shortage, or rising cost, just because they CAN is rediculous, they should not be allowed to take advantage of natural disasters, wars, etc to raise prices if the cost of theyre ingredients is not rising along with those things.
