Yup. Coolant can kill paint jobs, that's why we pushed it out of the garage and I hosed it down. As for freezing cold, he means in the 30s-40s, with slight wind chill.
As for another problem, I totally forgot about the idling problems and the exhaust fumes. The exhaust was puffing white smoke, aka, coolant getting into the exhaust ports. So this whole problem could have been that he lost a lot of coolant and that his headgasket was gone to begin with. I now have a feeling that the headgasket is gone and that may be a big problem now. I now also kinda feel at fault for not diagnosing this problem earlier.
