The flags themselves don't cause any discoloraziation...it is actually more that the flags protect the paint that is underneath them. As the rest of the car fades from sunlight, etc. the area under the flag won't. The good thing is that this takes years to happen (think old work truck with the graphics removed. I had the vinyl on my car for over a year with no ill affect. I wouldn't advise keeping the vinyl on for 5+ years for for a couple years I imagine there to be no problem.
