Bad Luck
An 8 owner on the international forum had a bit of trouble on the Dyno.
The heater core blew at 165 MPH during a dyno run.
"Wow, I consider myself lucky that it blew when it was straped to the dyno and not on my way home. The steam filled the garage and there was so much scalding antifreeze. First run, 3rd gear 242hp, 259ft/lb tq. We were going for a second run in 4th gear and the dyno was reading a speed of 165mph when the heater core went. "
BTW his '91 850 has about 200,000 miles on the engine. So much for the Terrible V12 engine reputation

Haha, yeah, at least it didn't have to get towed.
Glad no one was hurt also.

I personally think that "bad V12" is a myth. I've seen alot of them run in the "BIG" miles and virtually it's the ad ons that wear out (waterpump, thermostats, etc) mechanically they are fantastic. I'd like to build a "retro-rod" and power it with a V12. It's all the crap they bog it down with that curses its' integrity.

The reputation of a BMW V12 is bad. They tend too breakdown often even after they are repaired. Here it's a different story. The cars(850 and 750) are kept in a garage for 14 years before they are sold to public.

It's a good thing that it happened where they could fix it easily so he didn't get stranded in the middle of nowhere. I hope no one was seriously injured by the hot steam or flying debris.

Biggest number that I have seen is 840 and that is mine.
I really hope to exceed his dyno numbers when I finally get around to it.

I am Everywhere!!!!
You are the second 8 owner to show up here in the last couple of days.
I am tired of Roadfly at the moment so I do most of my time elswhere.
Yes to the Concours--I'm taking the week before it off to polish up the 8 just for the event.
