Repairs to a dead system between the hydraulics and computers can run a couple of thousand Euros at a dealer in Europe. And it still may not work. 3000 PSI hydraulic systems can be spectacular when they leak.

Remember that the 8 was to be the Perfect 'Bahnstormer, 155MPH plus all day without breaking a sweat. Not intended to be a sports car as we understand them here. That doesn't keep some of us from trying though.

A Bahn Stormer as per the Autobahn. It's meant to be a cruiser at 150 mph for hours. It's not really meant to be on the race track.

The CSI is a Manual also.

Whilst being a beautiful car, the 850 was really a waste of space. The 840, had just as much horsepower from 4 less cylinders. Fewer components means a higher MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures). As the CSI's had the same Nurburgring suspension package, manual and wheels as my car & the M5, it alone is not cheap to repair. At that age, you would need to look at it. $1,400(USD) per shock.

Also it had a super trick diff (Z diff off memory). None of the panels match any other model BMW and are extremely expensive.

I do love them and the President of BMWCC NZ had an 840 CSI and it was a dream to drive in. However, I would recommend an M5 before the 8 series for practicality and cost of ownership.

The 8s were a whole different audience than the 5 series.

It seems more targeted at the 7 series owners that wanted a Sporty luxury cruiser.

I sincerely hope that it didn't share any panels with other BMWs but it does share most of the driveline. Otherwise I think Unique is a good description. $pendy works too.

Anyone would play Hell prying most of us out of our 8s to put us into something Practical like a four door.

Am I the only one to notice that the owner claims 416hp after Dinan mods?

It's a shame that the 8 series never had the M on the back.... even though the csi was as such. It would've given it that little extra appeal.... imagine M8.

Another thing, which I believe someone else mentioned. This 8 series is a manual in the pics. It is mentioned as a six speed manual but the ad information states she's got a 4 speed auto w/overdrive.

Now, granted, $45k is a shit load to spend on a USED car. BUT:

1. It's an M8
2. Limited production
3. Dealer modded
4. Below expected mileage
5. Comes with 6-speed

Oh, and Retail pricing, not counting collector value nor the Dinan shit in it, is at $33k. Like Gold Panda, I beleive spent alot on Dinan, the extra $12k for the mods to go from 380 to 416hp is worth it to some.

Yes, I agree the 850CSi is nice, and a great car, and excellent Dinan mods, low mileage, and a 6-speed is indeed better than the auto.....BUT you have to agree that $45K is a chunk of change...and unless you really appreciate 8ers like Terry does...or that's your spare change...there are better choices than just the M8.



Really, for $45K, you might as well buy a used e46 M3, e60 545i, e66 745Li, etc. And then stick all those Dinan mods on afterwards and it would be 2-5 times better than that M8.
I could go on and on.

I just don't see the sense unless you are a die hard 8-Series fan like Terry is or have money to blow.

If I had $45k, I'd buy an E30 M3, fix everything, and put the rest of the money away in a high interest account, seeing how we're talking about classics here....
