M8 Prototype

These are pictures from a French magazine. They are not the usual shot of the M8 prototype

The car was never roadworthy. It has no headlights

In the attempt to make it lightweight a b pillar was added and even the roll-up windows are gone. Replaced by a flap window.

The engine made its way into the McClaren F1 and the only car is hidden away in a wharehouse somewhere if it hasn't been destroyed.

Can anyone read french?

Thats amazing, ive seen the 'ussual' photos of it before, and i searched long and hard for additional ones, but i couldnt turn anything up.. thanks for posting these.

What are the specs on the engine? is it the standard two m20 blocks welded together (with a different valve setup im sure)? or is this of a completely different design? 48 valves?

Any knowledge pertaining to why bmw seems so touchy about this car? Why has it been hidden away like a mistake?

I'm not quite sure what the full engine derivation is. I think it is fairly close to the M70/S70 but closer to the M72 4 valve DOHC that was never put into production.

I think 550 hp

Also heard a rumor that Mobile Tradition may have Captured the car If so it will be seen again.

What part of the French do you wanna know? In the first pic the text says its a 48 valve with 4 overhead cams @550 metric (pretty sure) HP. Caption on the last engine view says a 5 valve/cylinder and probably 4 overhead cams

If you flare out the fenders on the very first pic a bit, it kinda reminds me of the mustang rear-end.
