It is funny to me that the only 8 owners I know complaining about maintenance costs are those that have difficulty opening their own hoods.

I suppose that I should throw in the absolute perfectionists who have to spend $10K on making it perfect before they would be Seen in it!

On the other hand way too many people who don't own one are passing the word on how expensive they are to maintain. And especially Mechanics who don't want to learn to work on them.

Yes there are DOGS out there but most are not.

Oh well. You missed out on an opportunity. May you have another.

Just like any other car a lot depends on how much of the little stuff you can do yourself.

If you have to take it to the BMW dealer for every little sound or wiggle. I can predict it will be VERY EXPENSIVE to maintain

I have spent only about a thousand on real maintenance in two years. I need to do about another $500 this year. All of the rest I have spent has been jewlery for my little silver Mistress

BTW I bought her for $17,000 two years ago The depreciated price from then to now is still about $17,000.

Well i would like too.....All the 16 pieces 8 series here are only from 1991-1992 range. All these cars are garage since 1991 till 2003 without starting it.The car would cost at reasonable price and repairs will cost expensive ,Once the major repair of $30 000-$40 000 is done, the car is totally perfect??NO, other parts will be defect. and so on so on..until spending too much on the car where resale value would be down..Thats why i call the 8 series is a hobby car, not an everyday day.

The story in different places may be totally different stories.

In the US a lot are driven every day-like mine.

I would agree with you that if a car has been sitting that long it would be a problem to make good again.

Here is an ongoing story of mid-eastern models for entertainment

That one was parked for a while too.

Glad to see a Convert Might be a few here some day

'91, '92 and some '93 850i six speeds

'94 and '95 were 850CSi six speeds - all 225 in the US $$$$$$

In the US there were NO 840 six speeds - About 90 in Europe I think in '97 and '98 Might be hard to import. Conversion is about $10k here.

Manuals show up more often than you would think.

My 5 speed auto is faster shifting than I am in my later years (mostly out of practice but it is about to become Cobra weather)

The 5HP30 in the 840 is rated to 500 HP by ZF but the 4HP24 in the early 850s is somewhat less than that.

The later 840 and 850 models all have a 5 speed Steptronic '96 and up.

The shift from first to second in my 840 is at 7000 RPM in S at full throttle and you know it has shifted! Just try getting back out of the rear seat!

I Estimate at the moment is that the 8 is a little less than a second slower 0-60 than my '98 Cobra.
In the 1/4 mile the 8 should be less than a second slower.
At a half mile I would be starting to bet on the 8

The Cobra really isn't really slow. It is supposed to do 13.99 second 1/4s but I would have to change the shifter to find out.

Yes I am bragging on my Baby
