when you say track do you mean a propper race track or the drags? taking weight out of a car for a propper circuit can actually make you have slower lap times. the car is mande a certain way and the weight is usually balalnced so the car handles at its optimal level.
example, on one of my track outings i took my spare wheel and jack and everything out of the boot. bad idea. this made hte back end really light and the fron comparatively very heavy. the car handled like absolute crap. chucked it all back in and the car sorted itself out and i chopped almost a sencond per lap off straight away just because the car was more settled through the corners. the corner speed more than made up for the straightline speed that i gained.
