I can relate to your ideas, but you can get tint that is "distortion free". In my case (I have "posterior uveitus" sensitivity to bright light) I opted for the actual DOT 205 glass. I have to carry my Drs perscription with me at all times & have to have exams every other year. It's easy on the eyes but not the wallet ($1100.00 worth of glass)

Shop around you can get/ask for non or low distortion tint.
