I had the R1 and the Gixxer (Suzuki 1000). I used to Road Race Extreme Class bikes. Liter bikes and bigger. My buddy would whip my ass all over the track. He would ride my R1 and I would ride the Gixxer and I could hardly keep up with him. Mind you, he was a novice class rider and I was an expert class rider. The 1 is just more dicey in the corners and the power delivery was incredibly smooth once you cracked the throttle wide open on exit. It was like a bull rush of power that seemed endless. The gixxer made great power but it was all over the map with great power. The 1 delivery the power exactly where and when you needed it. I t is much more manageable I thought. I did'nt race it until my final two of seven years of racing. If I would have had the 1 when I first began, I might still be racing now. As I got older I lost my nerve to go into corners the way you need to. The way i did as a young man who had nothing to lose. These days I have much to lose, so the nerve had worn away.
