Performance Chip
I own a 1995 740IL and I just installed a K&N filter and I about to install Denso iridiums Plugs. Next, I have a choice in engine performance upgrade:
Dinan offers an engine program "chip" that delivers 15 hp / 18 ft tq. for $200.00 Dinan also offers a transmission program "Chip" to adjust shift points for $100.00 Although JET Chips offer a computer software upgarade where I have to send the CPU in and have it reprogrammed. It delivers 19 hp / 21 ft tq. for $300.00 The most I will spend is $500.00. What do you recomend? Has anyone out there ever tried the JET Chip on a Bimmer??? Do you know of other companies? Please help me make the right choice..... Please feel free to email: BGonzalez@slb.com |

The problem is that BMW decided to stop the Chipping with the '95 build year.
They added a security feature to the chip itself that is different for each car. If your ECU number ends in -404 you can just plug in a chip. If the ECU number is -484 then it has to be flashed with the BMW service computer or sent to the chip provider for programming. I use Wokke_2000 chips from Germany. Put them in an E32 740 first and when I test drove the 840 I couldn't understand why it was so much slower. Then I chipped the 840:worship . |
My E23 has 250k on it... I also was looking into the chip option, and am also planning on doing a rebuild in the next year or two (depending on certain circumstances). I currently have no issues other than vacuum and heater core (in process of fixing). Would you recommend waiting to chip until after the rebuild & tranny swap (going manual), or should it not make a difference? Do you have a link to a provider for the Wokke chips?
