auto to manual?

gives you a manual option on your auto tranny. switch it to M go ino first and moe through the gears as if it were a manual tranny.

no point though. leave it on A and put it in 3.... you'll have just as much fun

edit: at least thats how it is in the E36.... i jsut noticed what forum t his is and the car you have. may be different. but probably not.

yea.

A = Auto
M = Manual

It's an early version of steptronic .. sorta.

If you put it in M and drop the shifter to 1 (might start at 2) then you won't be able to shift out of that gear until you move the shifter up. Likewise, if you put it in 3, you'll be in 3rd gear.

If you put it in A and drop the shifter to .. say 3. It'll start in 1st and shift up, but will not go any higher than 3rd gear.

Yea. :)

^^^ figured as much :) in my last E30, the auto gearbox had a "S" selection for Sport. it wouldnt shift outta third and during agressive driving it held it in each gear closer to redline unlike the early shifting Drive mode.
