clock backlight always on

So, the bulbs for my computer died... Rather than paying $27 for 3 new ones from the dealership I opted to used wide angle leds... Brighter and much longer life. However, the backlight is always on (see pics) - I'd never noticed this with the bulbs, is it normal?

I'll add pics when I get home - phone won't upload em.

So, I've been swamped and unable to get back on here to upload pictures... and, unfortunately they're dang hard to see so I won't be putting them up.

Anyone ever had this issue? I'm thinking about going back to the bulbs if I can't sort this out.
