Random misfires, no torque til 60mph...please help anewub

98 750 bastard was working great..beyond great..tooooo gooood..then....
...I used to drive it 70 miles one way each weekend, park it 2 days, then make the trip back..about halfway home it loses torque, no guts even with the pedal on the floor it just inches forward...then as I hit 60 power returns and you couldn't tell anything was wrong, so i figured it had worked itself out..I used it for a daily driver since it only seemed to act up after a long trip..but as the problem began occurring randomly and more frequently I parked it......At any rate my first thought was a compression issue...no air leaks after checking..2nd I heard rumors from surrounding areas of bad gas causing major damage to all different types of vehicles(I had just filled the tank $98.00 friggin bucks) so I drained it cleaned the lines and filters, some gas treatment, no change..Tune up maybe??? changed plugs to iridium and new oil...nothing different..Now I can clear the codes, let it run half-arse for about 30 mins, hook up the obd2 and look, 10 out of 24 cylinders have misfired...

Now I'm thinking timing...but isn't that controlled by the computer now? and if so would I need to replace the whole computer or is there a way to reset? Or am I completely off the mark...Any suggestions will leave me better off...until then I drive a hatchback focus and cry cry cry...

check your distributor caps & rotors, then check for spark leaks with soapy water in a spray bottle in the dark. you also could have the most common problem with that engine , a bad or sticky throttle body motor. good luck!
