740iL Hhelp! it won't start EWS? starter? what's wrong?
Hi everyone,
i did a couple of stops yestarday as usual,i was ready to go home, and my '97 740iL wouldn't start. The interior electronics seemed to work fine. Tried jumping in but nothing so i had to tow it home. I put the fault code tool in and I got a EWS Input fault code, in the manual it says EWS= Drive Away Protection (Alarm System), how does it relate to the car not starting?...I thought maybe it's the starter, i took that out and hooked to a battery and it seems to work fine. So, what is wong? a relay? fuse? anyone knows what is going on with my car, what should i do?
all help very much appriciated

question....
Is your car trying to turn over or doing nothing at all when you turn the key????
thanks
btw if it is ews that means there is an issue with the computer reading the key. if you do an overall search(google, even m5board.com) you will find that there is a way to reset the key/computer connection using the trunk release button on your key.. so fuel test, spark test and testing starting is unnecessary if it is anews problem....

thnx a bunch, when i put the key in the ignition and turn it on the abs little moutain lite flicks on then straight off, then if you turn the engine over it wont start,if i turn the key and the abs light stays on for a second the car will start.i can hear a switch in the ews under the glovebox ckicking on and then off.i think the car goes thru a passive check before start up to make sure everything is working before it will start.all i know is that if that wee moutain lite doesnt remain on the car will turn over but not start.
