Programming
This is the way I programmed my (former) 5-series homelink.
Take the existing opener and place it adjacent* to the homelink in the car. Press the button on the opener that opens the garage while simultaneously pressing the button you wish to program to your garage door (the button in the car). Hold them down together for at least 5 to 7 seconds.
It is best if you do this in front of the garage door. Once the door is open you can try the homelink button in the car to see if it closes the door. If it does, the programming has taken place and you can now use the homelink instead of the stock garage opener device.
*(If the adjacent programming method does not work you can try to hold the loose opener perpendicular to the homelink)
