Cannot get in!
Hi all, I have a 96 E38 740iL
This morning I tried to get in, (tried both of my keys) but nothing happens, nothing at all. The little red led on the key glows as usual on both keys but not a glimmer of life anywhere. No clicks or anything. Dead.
Cant get in with key in keyhole either, at least I dont think I can.
Does anyone know what to do next, surely I dont have to call a megabuck mobile service co to get me in?
Is there a way to unlock manually? A secret button or something
Can't even get in to the boot its all electric too!!

hi stuart, your battery is dead.if it's in the trunk, charge the battery or put jumper cables on to recharge the battery. if not,get a small child to go through the trunk & pull your hood latch.good luck

E38 electrical headaches
Mantonio
Thanks for your reply. You are quite right, dead flat battery. That leads me to the next question, i have a lot of circuits that are draining the battery and so I pulled some fuses out (eg car computer and a few other non essentials) this lower the drain down rate but still drains some fractions of an amp.
Any case now the battery is actually stuffed and I cant get it to charge up, and I havent driven it for some time, seems a shame to say but Ive never had any Japo cause such electrical grief.
I guess I need to buy a new battery and get it started and take it along to auto shop and pay big bucks to get going again.
Do you know of any good on line guides to electrical problems or where to get the full wiring diagram?

Turn the key to the left. Then keep turning. It will unlock (trunk or door).

Jack up the car and connect the + side jumper cable to the starter post and - to the frame. Do not try to start the car or charge it. This should give you some power so you can unlock your doors.
