RE: 745il reliability

Hello,

I am a new member but have owned my 2002 745i for over a year now. In terms of reliability I think the car is great mechanically....software wise it is a bit buggy. I've had my software reloaded/updated by the dealer at no cost but buyer beware! I would not buy one which is not a Certified Pre-owned. If the vehicle is certified the dealer is more giving when you have problems. I believe that one needs to spend a little time to get acquainted with the I-drive system...other than that it is not difficult at all. Just think of the I-drive control as your mouse to the PC/Car. My brother drove my 745i once and loved it.....he will be getting his 2007 750li in a few months.

Good Luck,

Wayne

As far as I know they are pretty decent cars, we dont have a lot of 7 owners here so we can't help too much, but as long as the car was well maintained it shouldn't have any huge problems.

When you get it make sure you do all maintence items and get it up to par change all fluids etc. Also keep up with the maintence and you will have a happy experience, granted its a BMW so not always that cheap but it will save you money and headaches.

I concur with what Nick says about the fluids, especially the automatic transmission. My club member that I am friends with has a 745IL and he loves it. He has had issues with electronic stuff, windows, computer, etc, but nothing major.

Thank you guys.....
I have those exciting feelin once I sat on 745il....This is it.....
As the only main concern at the moment is those software which is I have no man power to fix it.....if somethin up...
I more likely will purchase used and hopefully still under warranty
I guess newer car has different issues.....
I ll keep that in mind for flushin all the liquid....
Is there anyway we could find out or check wheather all software in the car is working propertly...without dealer off course...

You might even be able to get a dealer to check the software for little or no money, they can probably just do a quick diagnostic on it.
