Uh-Oh...
 

So Friday I changed the tranny and oil fluid & filters... everything went smooth, less the fact that one of the bracket bolts broke off when I was removing them from the tranny pan. So now I have 5 good bolts/brackets, and 1/2 a bolt in the tranny with no way to remove it. :ranting

Ideas on getting the thing out? I have a new bracket & bolt coming, but of course need to remove the old one before I can put it on.

I'm thinking I could use my dremel to go through the center of the bolt and then coax it out with... umm, something? The dealer said they have easy out tools, but of course it's something that they'd do then charged whatever time it took x going rate (and of course the initial inspection, service charges, etc :deal) - so that would hardly be worth the stress and $$$.
Another idea is to just drill straight through using a bit slightly smaller than the bolt, then just re-tapping it(I have a feeling the bolt may have been cross-threaded... hence the reason it was stuck and broke.)

Needless to say I'm saddened that this has happened - luckily with the other 5 brackets the pan doesn't leak, but I want to have all 6 like there should be.

Go to your hardware store and pick up a bolt/screw extractor. They come in different sizes for whatever you need to get out.

unfortunately for some of the tougher and sometimes rusted bolts, the tools break before the bolts do :(

if that doesnt work,t ry a chisel and hammer :)

^+1, I have tied this and broke one, they are very britle and you need to be slow and very patient. Good luck, otherwise break out a drill.

I had one of the rotor retaining bolts get stripped at one point and had to go through all of this to get it out. IT SUCKED

a chisel & hammer??? the bolt is maybe 6-7mm (10mm head), if anything else I'll drill out the center w/ my dremel and a small bit, then put a tight fitting torx bit in there and see if I can coax it out. I'll look at the bolt/stud removal stuff at the hardware store tomorrow morning... *crosses fingers*

trust me a chisel and hammer works, you can drill the middle of it, and put the chisel in there, make sure u put the chisel on the outside, and if you give it a good hard hit and the chisel sticks eventually it will come through

so drill out the center of the bolt, get a small chisel to go inside the bolt hole, but nearly as wide as the bolt and push it through that way? Hmm... interesting. I'll see what I can do/find.
