That poor guys story is sad but nothing to take lightly - at least he tried something. We had a customer(when I worked for BMW) in the Tampa area that had left her oil cap off after adding a quart - the spray from the opening blew back across the engine, into the hood liner then onto exhaust manifold which inturn proceeded to burn everything from the firewall forward. It melted everything that wasn't metal. Luckily BMW electric fuel pumps shut off when engine quits or she might not be around to tell the story. Car had 16k on it and it sat at Tampa dealer for over a month before Ins. co took it. The guys there covered it with car cover - they couldn't bare looking at it yet smelling it
