If you dont know from messing around in a parking lot like every teenager should do at some point.. then seriously get out to your local walmart parking lot when its raining sometime and throw the car around.
With an open diff, when you throw the car sideways and gas it, the outside rear wheel will light up with no traction, and the inner wheel will just slide without any power being applied to it. With a LSD both wheels will have equal power applied to them.
