Project L6
My dad has an old 1987 BMW L6. It is essentially a 635CSI, but the entire interior is leather, hence the "L" in "L6". The car itself hasn't run in about 2 years. The front spoiler is cracked and damaged, and some front bumper pieces need to be glued down.
I know for the most part how to handle the exterior side of this restoration. However, I am looking for insight as to what I need to replace on the motor, suspension, brakes, etc. I know the basics such as:
spark plugs
oil & filter
fuel filter
belts
injectors?
coolant
thermostat
What else should I be considering in this project. The car also does not run. Thanks guys, and wish me luck.

My dad bought a new battery to turn it over a few times.
And I don't have any pics, because it is under blankets and full of storage stuff, etc.
edit: and I will be getting BBS wheels and tires.

well, first off. drain the oil. When you do it, siphon the oil through a paper towel as it dumps from the car. if there's metal shavings of any kind in the oil, start looking for a new engine or major engine work.
Edit: also look all over for rust. As far as the brake go. to do the restore right, the whole brake system should eb replaced, and you can sneak in some performance mods while you're at it. like steel braided hoses and such.
For suspension, anything with rubber should be replaced. Anything hydraulic should be replaced. So pretty much everything should be replaced to o a full and proper restore

It looks like you are going to have a good time.
ed at mwrench.com would be a good source of information. He has done a lot of work on older 5's and 6's.

definitely check out the battery and alternator. It it sounded like it was trying to turn over but didn't, theres a good chance the alternator has gone bad as well as the spark plugs. Good luck, sounds like a cool car.
