635csi Transmission Shift

Hello to all, I have a question if anyone has seen this. I changed out the rear seal and Pan gasket on my 1985 635CSI do to a massive leak. When everything was reinstalled, and the Car ran it would not shift out of First gear until 5000 RPM. Then it would not shift out of Second Gear at all, I looked at the Transmission Throttle cable and it appears to be kinked. If anyone knows would this cause the Transmission to not shift. I have ordered a new cable, but it does seem strange.
