6-Series (E3, E24, E63, E64)General discussion and technical help for all year 6 series cars.
Ahhh, the classic E24. Someday I will own one and make it a restoration project. The Euro versions were much better than their US counterparts, but still a great car. Here's some info and tips, if you haven't seen this yet:

ok, well i was waiting for someone else to post to avoid a double-post but oh well.
the biggest problem with getting a 6 is that they are so rare and so few people have them that there really isnt a market for parts. that means all the parts you need you have to get through BMW. that means lotsa $$$. may i emphasize: LOTS of $$$.

definatly buy one. i got an 85 635csi and the parts arn't really THAT expensive(some are tho). lots of used parts on evilbay and these cars are definatly fun to drive. be sure to get a good dash as these are really expensive, but a 5-speed is a must. the 85 has the strong trans(getrag 265) but i rerally enjoy the metalic black one i got for the wife. m-parallels from a 7 series look great on mine. as soon as i get the 300MM brakes on it i'll post up some pics.
hope this helps,
chris

We have just bought one and it is the best decision i have made. The car is fantastic (admitidly it doesn't run properly) but it's still a classic 6er.
The main thing to watch is rust on the front wings and on the floor. The mechanicals are normally bullet proof.
Go on... you know you want one, so get one... but make sure you look after it!

I was given a 1985 635 that is in decent condition with little rust. I have some questions. First, is the alarm factory? I think it is the reason it won't turn over (n0 juice to starter.)It is all original and has everything including tool kit and floor mats. I really have no time to fix it up. Any one interested in buying it?

Hey everybody, I'm new too and I need sone help ASAP. I'm workin on an 85 shark with a guy. He told me that one if his friends tried jumpstarting it one day. And accidentally put the wrong clamps on the wrong terminals. And it started smoking. So he took them off and tried starting the car and it immediately started smoking.. He turned the car off and tried starting it a week later when he replaced the battery now it won't start. We haven't tried starting it again so I'm not sure if he just fried the alternator or if he blew a ground or a fuse.. I'm trying to buy this car but he wants to fix it before he hands it over. Nice guy. I know a little about bimmers as I used to have an 85 325. But this has me stumped.. Any ideas?? Thanks
I have a 1986 635 CSI and I absolutely love the car. Hence the reason I have put far more money into it than it is worth but what a driving machine. The biggest problem I had were the metric tires. The old 390 TRX tires were a really hard compound. They wore like iron but they were loud and bad on wet roads. Michelin stopped making the tires and the only source wanted $400 apiece for them. I bit the bullet and found 16 inch wheels from a 2002 5 Series with the same offset and put a good set of Michelin 215-55-16 Primus tires on them. What a difference. It cost way less than the TRXs and I can use standard tires now. Make sure you have a BMW mechanic check out any 6 Series before you buy it. The suspensions are complex and the shocks are expensive. You really want to make sure you go into a purchase with your eyes open.
You will love the car.
