I'm starting to have second thoughts about this. In my mind this is going on: we don't have very many sponsors and have lost a few recently because our members weren't really buying from them. What we do have though is a decent amount of traffic, so I'm thinking later on we might slowly introduce google adwords instead of the banners, because we get paid some small amount everytime someone clicks on one, no purchase necessary.
And also this server is probably a little much for us now. It's pretty expensive for the amount of money coming in, and we have nothing left for advertising money, so the growth will continue very slowly... and if we open United Subaru, the advertising money would be even less (granted we'd have a few new suby sponsors, but it wouldn't be anything huge). After thinking about it, I think this might be a better idea, tell me what you guys think... what about moving to a new mid-range server in a few days (less expensive than this one, but still with PLENTY of capacity, since right now we're only using like 1%, maybe we could get a server where we use 20% or so, and save the rest of the money). We could take the header of UnitedCars off for now (keeping all the work to finish later), and finish the core parts like UnitedGarage and get email up. Then by the time that's done, we'll have accumulated a decent amount of money from savings on the server, and then we can launch a massive advertising campaign, bringing in lots of traffic, and migrating to google adwords, which will bring in even more money for advertising. After we have a good flow of traffic coming in, we can look into finishing UnitedCars. I'm just worried now that if we attempt a project that large this soon, we might be stretching ourselves too thin and when the finances catch up with us, we could be in trouble. We need to play this smart, and while UnitedCars is going to kick ass when we get it up and running, I'm thinking it might be a bit too soon.
What are you guy's thoughts on this? =/
