Exclamation UNITED BIMMER - New Server Purchased!!!!

Once again, United Bimmer members spoke, and we've listened.

http://www.unitedbimmer.com/forums/thread3068.html

That thread right there was pinned in the lounge for a few weeks, and a decision was made.

I just got off the phone with my datacenter. I just purchased a brand new server for United Bimmer. Now, this sever will be used in conjunction with my existing server, not replacement. This means I'm going to spread the load (mysql and http) between the two servers to make it even faster and better.

See those banners top right are actually doing something for the community rather than just going into the pocket of the owner.

For all the geeks out there, drool over the specs of the server I ordered for us ... it's a DUAL 2.4GHz Xeon Processor server with 1GB of DDR400 memory, 160GB of hard drive space (to allow files.ub.com to grow, in addition to the existing 80GB), and I upgraded the uplink port speed to 100mbit/sec to increase the burst during our busy times. That means the server can send out data at 12.5 megabytes per second... pretty much maxing everyone's connection, even under very heavy load.

And of course it's all running on FreeBSD.

This means UB is going to have over 6 and a half GHz of processing power, over 2 terrabytes of bandwidth, a quarter of a terabyte of storage space (for people's pictures and videos), and two seperate uplink ports to allow anyone to access our site and just about as fast as their personal connection will allow.

In other (non-geek) words, it's going to be blazing fast, have a ton of storage room, and plenty of room for growth.

It'll be ready to move over to in a few days.

Now that we have this nice infrastructure set up (probably one of the, if not the, nicest server setups of all the car forum communities online), all I ask is that you guys help me out by going out and recruiting new members for us. haha

Thanks UB!!
