The post 1997 seats came out a 1998 318i sedan and the lower brackets have an extra grove on the inside of one of the brakects for holding something to do with SRS that is connected with side door airbags that came on 1998 and later BMW E36s.
so he's gonna do it like this diagrahm and pull out the old cloth-covered cushions&headrest and replace it with the new leatherized cushions.

Good idea.. but if the seats come with brackets they should fit anyway though shouldnt thet? The mounting points in the chassis probably didnt change.
