I agree about the reliabilty part of a honda, but they're not as reliable as one would think. Yes, they are more reliable then a BMW which is obvious, but there are TONS of problems with older/early 90s Honda's. Granted you probably won't have a blown engine unless the timing belt has never been changed (which is VERY common) but you will still have lots of little things that will annoy you. And parts for BMWs are as available as they are for Honda's now and actually, BMW parts especially for the e30's are generally around the same price or cheaper now.
Look at it this way, you buy a used car, you NEVER know what you're getting into whether it's a BMW or a Honda. Both had previous owners and years of driving so you never know what had fully happened to any car. If you're going to get a bimmer, I would suggest buying from someone who is on a forum and shows a great care for BMWs. The real enthusiast's will always take care of their cars better.
