Hardly. Mine was torn to shreads on the bottom of it (airflow was probably about 20%, if that). I drove with this for over 30,000 miles with it like this (as far as I know, previous owner might have driven it more). The only reason I replaced it was for show. And trust me, with all the electronics in my car, my alternator is still working fine.
