That question, often times, (esp. when traffic is heavy and you were not exactly in direct radar\lidar sight) is not rethorical and they didn't clock you but noticed you were definately speeding in relation to the traffic around you. If I said like 90, he probably would have written it down, or just proceded to give me a warning ticket like I got.
"exceding speedlimit in a 65 mph zone"/ BAD timing.

Actually, the reason they ask that question and word it that way is to get you to admit guilt. A lot of times they are taping/recording the stop..... video.....
