Due to a potential manufacturing glitch, 2,642 examples of the 2012 and 2013
BMW X5 and 2013
BMW X6 are being recalled. The steering gear surface on said models might have been improperly machined, which could cause power steering fluid to leak onto the hot exhaust and cause a fire in the engine compartment.
BMW will begin notifying owners in July, at which time they can take their crossovers to dealers to repaired free of charge.
